Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has underscored the significance of technology and digitalisation to modern governance systems and the transformation of nations.

In his widely-publicised interview with Asempa FM, the former president said technology and digitalisation are indispensable to the transformation of nations; therefore, for a country to progress, it needs a leader who understands and appreciates its application, just as Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has done.

Buttressing the importance of technology and digitalisation, former President Kufuor referenced the global influence of American billionaire Elon Musk, whom he said has enormous influence over even American and Russian presidents.

“About this digital technology, have you heard about Elon Musk in America?” Kufuor asked Asempa FM’s Osei Bonsu, his interviewer.

“When was the last time, in the past 30 years, that you heard one man was so powerful as he is? He is so powerful that when he speaks, the American president, the Russian president all listen. It is because of this new technology he controls, even though he is very young,” he said.

He continued to say, “These technologies are very important and key to the transformation of the country, and Bawumia has clearly shown how he wants to apply it in our banking system, our electoral system, tax system and how he wants to apply it into the tax system for our business people to be relieved and grow their businesses.

“He has also shown how he wants to apply it in healthcare, the drone system and all that.”
